Field Notes
Histogram slope notes traders forget to write

Signal-line crosses get the headlines. Histogram slope does the quieter work of confirming or contradicting them. In the intensive, we ban vague journal lines like “MACD looked strong.” Strength must be described.
Phrases we accept
- “Histogram rising for three bars after a shallow dip below zero.”
- “Histogram peaked two bars ago; slope now flattening into the cross.”
- “Histogram still deep negative while the signal line crossed up.”
Phrases we send back for rewrite
- “Bullish.”
- “Momentum good.”
- “Looks clean.”
Those words cannot be audited next month. Slope language can.
A short drill
Pick one instrument and one timeframe. For the last ten signal-line crosses, write one sentence on histogram slope at the moment of the cross. Count how many of your historical entries would have failed your own sentence. That count usually surprises people more than any textbook chapter.
